1 cup sugar
1 slice lemon zest
4 cups pears, peeled, cored and sliced
3 large eggs
2 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
12 slices bread, slightly stale
