Kid’s Healthy Dinner Ideas
Undoubtedly, if you took a survey and asked kids what was their favorite meal, they would say Mac and Cheese or chicken nuggets and fries. There are certainly more options in preparing dinner for kids. Let’s review some healthy kid friendly dinner ideas.
Pasta is a great idea for kids! Serving spaghetti can be fun and nutritious at the same time. If you wish to jazz it up, instead of tomato sauce, you can serve spaghetti with broccoli flowerets instead; or chicken strips.
High on the list is pizza; homemade that is. In this way, you can utilize nutritious toppings, and it’s easy on the pocketbook as well.
If you are going to serve Mac and cheese, make it from scratch. Mac and Cheese in a box is very high in sodium; add different cheeses to make it more interesting and delicious.
What kid doesn’t love chicken nuggets! Instead of fast food joints, prepare chicken nuggets at home. Click here for a homemade chicken nugget recipe. It is very easy and nutritious as well. Instead of French fries, substitute a baked potato.
Soup is a wonderful staple for kids. Lentils are a favorite; add carrots and celery, and you are fulfilling most of the dietary requirements. How about grilled cheese accompanied by a dish of soup? Choose to prepare homemade tortillas, using ingredients which are healthy and satisfying.
Whatever you choose to prepare, ensure that you serve vegetables with every meal.
Spinach, broccoli, string beans, carrots; these are all very high in nutritional value. While most kids push vegetables off to the side of the plate, think of interesting ways in which to serve. For example: add cheese on top of cooked broccoli and microwave it. It is quite delicious.
Coming up with various ways to prepare dinner for kids can encourage them to eat foods which they would thumb their nose at! Variety is the spice of life. Your family will enjoy any of the aforementioned meals, but more to the point, so will your kids.
