Homemade Healthy Pizza Recipe
This homemade healthy pizza recipe is really easy to make and a much healthier alternative to supermarket pizza and your kids will have a lot of fun making them too.
For the Pizza:
1 packet dried yeast (the yeast you use to make bread, you should find it in the baking/flour isle) ?>
1 teaspoon sugar
2 cups and 1 oz (17 oz total) whole wheat bread flour
A pinch of salt (about 1 teaspoon)
Approximately 1 ½ cups lukewarm water (you may not need that much)
For the Topping:
Approximately 4 tablespoons tomato/pizza sauce (if you read the labels you can find good quality, additive free sauces on your supermarket shelves)
Mozzarella cheese (in ball shape or grated, I prefer to buy in ball form)
Cut veggies like mushrooms, peppers, etc. and/or chopped ham
In a small bowl mix 1 ¾ ounces of the water with the yeast and sugar, stir well. In a separate bowl add the flour and make a well in the middle. Pour in the yeast mixture and about another ounce of water. Start to mix the dough using your hands firmly and add a little water as necessary. Keep kneading the dough until nearly lump free.
Place the dough onto a flour surface and knead firmly for 5 more minutes. Then in a separate clean bowl add a little flour and place the dough inside. Cover with cling wrap and let stand at room temperature for approximately 30 minutes (preferably in a warm part of the room). The dough will double in size.
Preheat oven to 350F. Once the dough is ready place a little flour on a large baking sheet and separate the dough into individual size pizzas. Shape each pizza and place on the baking sheet or you can just make one large pizza if you prefer.
Spread the tomato sauce over the pizza bases and add small pieces of torn mozzarella or grated mozzarella on top. Top with any additional toppings you’re using and bake for approximately 20 minutes.
